Serving pages in application/xhtml+xml forces you to keep your markup XML compliant, but it doesn't mean it'll validate. I had a problem with my <a href="http://arapehlivanian.com/2006/05/12/documentwrite-fix-for-real-xhtml/" rel="nofollow">DocumentWriteOverride</a> script because I was giving my script tags IDs (which isn't valid XHTML) but I found a solution and all is well once again.
